Gemma Luther

MBAC (Accred) BA (Hons) Individual & Couples Therapist

I am trained to use a person-centred approach which means I will work with you at your own pace, getting to the issues that are troubling you in a non-intrusive way. I also hold in mind other theoretical approaches to help you explore and understand your problems. Our work will focus on developing the therapeutic relationship so that you feel emotionally supported throughout your counselling. I will encourage you to feel free to be honest with me and your honesty will not be met with any judgment.

If you are a couple in crisis and your relationship has broken down as a result of an affair, a lack of intimacy, emotional conflict or if you have just drifted apart, I will provide a safe and quiet space to explore what has gone wrong. I will help you to find a way forward by trying to improve communication and emotional re-connection.

Sometimes life gets complicated, and it can all feel a bit too much. At times, we may face a crisis in our lives which we are unable to overcome on our own. Maybe you just feel a bit stuck at the moment and do not have anyone you can talk to about how you feel. If so, it can really help to have someone to talk to. Counselling offers a confidential space where you can be open about the issues you are experiencing and the impact they are having on your life.

If you are not sure how you feel, that is fine too. It can take time to explore and understand what is going on and why it is affecting you so much.

Embarking on counselling may feel daunting but, once you take the first step, it can set you on the road to making positive changes in your life. Sharing your thoughts and feelings in a safe space can be empowering and enlightening.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have an Advanced Certificate in working with couples.

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP registration no: 379611) www.bacp.co.uk

I work with clients with a variety of issues. My work is helping people to make sense of their issues, grow more confident in their ability to face life’s challenges, trust their own judgments and take control of their lives.

I have also worked in an Emotional Wellbeing Centre working one to one with clients in addiction and survivors of domestic abuse.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Maternal Mental Health - I have extensive experience in maternal mental health issues and feel this is an area where there is not enough help offered to new parents. If you are struggling during pregnancy or after a birth which did not go the way you expected it to, I can offer support in coming to terms with how this has affected yo u. It may be that being a parent has placed more pressure on you than you imagined, or it seems that others are finding it a more enjoyable experience. It is natural to feel overwhelmed and I can help you to understand your feelings around this. I have also undertaken training in the area of baby loss.
