Kerry Sharp

UKCP, MBACP, MA in Child and adolescent Psychotherapy

I am an integrative psychotherapist offering individual sessions for children, adolescents, adults and parents.  Also, I provide support to parents so that they can reflect upon the developmental needs of their child and family dynamics in order to promote attachment, regulation and the environment surrounding the child.

For me, the most important part of my work is the therapeutic relationship, as well as creating a safe, nurturing, confidential space for young people and adults to explore their inner world and discover their true selves.  I have a keen interest in attachment, child development, trauma, neuroscience, and intergenerational complexities.

As we journey through life, we all encounter a variety of challenges and difficulties.  No matter what stage of life you are at, there can be times when situations become overwhelming and you are unsure of what to do or where to turn.  The act of reaching out for support can have a very empowering effect, resulting not only in personal growth but also in the development of the network that surrounds you.  I am here to support you and be alongside you during the healing process.

Each of us is unique and I draw upon a wide variety of theoretical approaches and styles to support children, young people, and adults with varying difficulties and concerns.  As well as talking I can incorporate play, art and creativity within the therapeutic space to support self-expression and make sense of feelings and behaviours.  I intend to work closely with parents/carers and other professionals to ensure that the child or young person receives the best possible support. I provide support to the network surrounding the child or young person, including educational settings and other professionals.

What to expect

Contacting a therapist might be a new experience for you and can initially feel quite daunting.  The most important thing is that you find a therapist who is right for you and/or your child, something I am very willing to discuss with you.  It would be my pleasure to speak with you and to determine whether I can provide what you need. You are welcome to call me and have a conversation.

All of my work starts with an initial assessment where we can have time together to discuss your reasons for starting therapy whether this is for yourself and/or your child.  I will gather a full history during this time and we can think about your hopes from therapy, considering your child’s wishes if the referral is for them.  We can then discuss the best way forward.

Sessions are one to one for 50 minutes on the same day and time each week which will be agreed upon at the beginning of our therapeutic journey together.  When working with children/young people I offer and facilitate regular reviews with parents/carers.  Group sessions are for 1 hour.
